From a swimathon, summer party, a table top sale, cake sale, raffle or wine tasting evening – whatever you decide to do – your fundraising event will make a big difference to the quality of all seafaring families who are in difficulty.
We know that organising your own event can be daunting so we prepared a few simple steps to help you through the process.
Decide on an event
Your event could be about anything! If you haven’t yet decided on an event, we have some ideas that could inspire you. Whatever you decide to do, we’ll be here to help you along the way!
Planning your event
Decide when and where your event will take place and what you will need to make it a success. Are there any safety or legal issues to consider? Think about getting help from family, friends, colleagues or local businesses to help you.
Set up an online fundraising page
One of the best ways to fundraise for your event is to set up a JustGiving or Virgin Money Giving fundraising page. It’s free and very easy to set up and you will get your own link to share with your family, friends and colleagues. It will give all your supporters a safe and simple way to donate to your event.
We’ve prepared a few tips to help you make your page a success:
- Personalise your page with your story, photos and a target you would like to raise.
- Share the link to your new fundraising page on your social media channels and email to all your family, friends and colleagues so they can learn more about the event and make a donation.
- Keep your page up-to-date by posting progress about the event to let everyone know how you are doing!
Promote your event
Make sure you promote your event in plenty of time so you can raise as much money as possible. You can use your social media profiles to post about your story, the event and share the link to your fundraising page. Don’t forget to let us know about the event too so we can offer you further support on how to promote your event and make is a success!
Send in the money you raised
The money you raise on JustGiving or Virgin Money Giving fundraising pages will go straight to Seafarers UK so you don’t need to do anything. If you raise any money offline, please send a cheque to Seafarers UK, 8 Hatherley Street, London SW1P 2QT. Don’t forget to include your name and address so that we can thank you!
‘I organised a summer party in support of Seafarers UK. With good planning and great support from my friends and family the night was a real success and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves’
