Seafarers UK’s grant funding support for SSAFA’s vital casework service
Seafarers UK has awarded a £10,000 grant to support SSAFA’s (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) casework service which provides welfare advice and support to serving personnel, veterans and their families.
Led by a network of specially trained volunteers, SSAFA’s casework service provides face-to-face personalised support, identifies people’s needs and helps them to access any support they require in their community.
Funding from Seafarers UK has helped to provide training for new caseworkers and refresher courses for those already providing this valuable service.
Seafarers UK’s Grants Director, Deborah Layde, said ‘SSAFA’s caseworkers not only exist to relieve need, suffering and distress amongst the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in order to support their independence and dignity but also, through Seafarers UK’s funding, support Merchant Navy seafarers and their dependents in need. A great network of volunteers that covers the UK.’
Jonathan Sandall, Director of Fundraising at SSAFA, said of the donation: “Our partnership with Seafarers UK is a long-standing example of how much can be achieved with collaboration and a mutual goal of supporting our Armed Forces community. We are enormously grateful to Seafarers UK for their generosity and continued partnership.”
