Seafarers UK 24 Peaks Challenge – Hot, hilly and huge respect

July 19, 2018

7-8 July 25 teams took on the Seafarers UK 24 Peaks in 24 hours challenge.  With every peak over 2,400 feet, this was certainly not to be treated as a walk in the park.

The recent welcome heatwave was its own obstacle, but the teams prepared themselves and faced the challenge with great camaraderie. The challenge certainly lived up to its reputation, though, and some walkers took the brave and sensible decision to come down from the mountains early.

Every walker tested and pushed their personal limits and returned triumphant. Congratulations were in order both for those who completed the full 24 peaks, and those who walked with them and supported their teams along the way.  With huge smiles, hugs and a few tears across teams and with support and medals from the organisers and Seafarers UK alike, the scale of what they achieved started to set in.

First timers, Spinlock had this to say following the event:

“Huge thanks from Team Spinlock. The support Global Challenge UK and Seafarers UK gave throughout the process was vital to our success. Our main goal was to start and finish together, supporting each other through the highs and lows to finish the 24 Peaks route. The whole process has certainly brought our company closer together, and I’m sure more employees will partake in the future as we have proved it can be done!”

Presentation of the awards saw Steamship Mutual take the coveted ‘Top Fundraiser’, raising over £10,000, and Teekay Foundation won the Ambassador Award by bringing together five teams to take part. To date the 25 teams have raised an amazing £93,325 for Seafarers UK.

We are extremely grateful to every team and their individual members for their commitment to the event through their training, preparation and fantastic fundraising.  The funds raised will help provide vital support for seafarers in need and their families.

Seafarers UK would also like to thank Global Challenge UK for looking after everyone’s safety and helping to create another fantastic event. We now look forward to another successful event next year, with provisional dates already in place of 6-7 July 2019.
