Seafarers Awareness Week accelerates with industry support
With less than two months to go, preparation for Seafarers Awareness Week is accelerating as the maritime industry comes together with educators to support the seventh year of the campaign.
Seafarers Awareness Week (24-30 June) will focus on two new themes; ‘Maritime Jobs at Sea and Ashore’ and ‘Sea Ports for Prosperity’.
With over 140 maritime organisations already supporting the week, Seafarers Awareness Week aims to rally corporates and training establishments, providing an opportunity to promote the UK maritime industry’s contribution of £11 billion a year to the economy while supporting over 113,000 jobs.
Supporters are being encouraged to promote the campaign by: linking to the campaign website using social media and the campaign hashtag #SeafarersWeek throughout and before June; and organising an event or promotional activity in the week.
During Seafarers Awareness Week a host of activities are taking place across the UK. All registered events are promoted here.
Complementing the Seafarers Awareness Week events and intensive media relations activity is an educational campaign, encouraging primary school teachers and children to think about the maritime world and how 95% of UK imports come by sea, including much of the food we eat.
Seafarers UK has partnered with Fyffes for a second year to offer interactive materials showing the journey of the banana starring character Freddy Fyffes. Free promotional materials are available to download or request at www.seafarersweek.uk/schools.
