Fletcher Group receives Top Fundraiser award for Seafarers UK 24 Peaks Challenge

July 11, 2019

Teams took to hiking 24 peaks across the Lake District over the weekend of 6-7 July in support of Seafarers UK.  With every peak over 2,400 feet, this was a worthy challenge to train for and take seriously.  With sore knees, tired feet and every walker challenging their comfort zones, all encountered personal achievement.

The weather favoured the walkers, with cool starts and clear skies to enjoy the amazing views of the Lake District as they ascended the peaks over the two days and 30+ miles.

The teams trained for the event alongside fundraising in support of seafarers in need and their families.  With raffles, bake sales and other events organised to help raise funds, plus many clients, suppliers, friends and family have contributed to support the teams reach, and in some cases exceed, their fundraising targets.  The event is expecting to raise £50,000 with some funds being received following the event.

Teekay Shipping Glasgow completed the 24 Peaks Challenge in the shortest time of the weekend, an impressive 19 hours 13 minutes and 42 seconds!  More importantly, though, the Top Fundraiser Award was presented to a new team to 24 Peaks, Fletcher Group.  On receipt of the award, Keith Fletcher, Managing Director, immediately announced that he would match what the team had so far raised, which was welcomed with another round of applause.  Our Top Ambassador Award is presented to the company that encourages the most teams to participate, and this year the award went to Maersk for their three teams and we really appreciate the increasing support from this great supporter of Seafarers UK.

Thank you to all the teams for their commitment to the event.  From their months of training and preparation, to their fundraising and also the great atmosphere and camaraderie throughout the event weekend.  We have set the date for our 24 Peaks Challenge in 2020 and hope to see many, if not all, of the teams from this year back again.

Save the date, 4-5 July 2020.  Get in touch to find out more, register your interest and even sign up your team and start your journey to the 24 Peaks in 2020.
