Seafarers UK grant of £15,000 to support Stoll

February 15, 2017

In 2016, Seafarers UK awarded a grant of £15,000 to Stoll, towards their tenancy support services for Veterans, enabling frail and older veterans (60+ years old) to remain living independently, ensuring that they are safe, healthy and enjoying life to the full.

One of Stoll’s residents who will benefit from Seafarers UK support is 84-year-old Eve, who lived at Stoll with her husband Bob, an ex-Seafarer. Since leaving the Navy, Bob struggled with his health and had sadly died 16 years ago. Their family were supported by Stoll throughout their time there: “The staff at Stoll are very pleasant. They will try and do anything you ask, help you in any difficulty.”

Eve has 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and says she looks forward to the peace and quiet of her Monday art class where she is enjoying learning to paint. Eve is an active part of community life at Fulham Mansions, and as a regular attendee of StollNet tutoring, Eve has learned how to use Skype to keep in touch with her family.

Stoll provides support for over 250 veterans in Fulham, East Acton, Hounslow and Chiswick, with their Domestic Support service for frailer, older Veterans, enabling them to remain independent. Additionally, Stoll provides an Outreach service for Veterans living in B&B’s, hostels or on the streets, or in inadequate housing across London, and their Veterans’ Nomination Scheme, running since 2009, matches Veterans of working age with available social housing throughout England, preventing homelessness.

Stoll has a proven track record as an excellent service provider, specifically for the Veteran community, having provided housing and support services for Veterans and their families for 100 years.

Seafarers UK have supported Stoll for a number of years and awarded grants of £20,000 in 2013 and 2015 to support their vital work.
